The South Asia Department at Hudson’s most recent round table discussion focused on what India desires as its role in the region. Dr. Aparna Pande hosted a this discussion to hear from Dr. Jagannath Panda, an expert on India and Chinese relations. He gave his thoughts on how the Indian government treats the Quad Alliance and the changing nature of India- China relations. Also in attendance were individuals from various think tanks and embassies.

Dr. Panda expressed his personal opinion on how India viewed the Quad Alliance as more of a dialogue forum, rather than a coalition on maritime security. Dr. Panda explained that he believed India desires to have open relations with both China and the United States, and has attempted to shape the Quad alliance to make it appear less like an anti-China coalition.
